FACTS ABOUT THE EDUKCIRCLE AWARDS

The EdukCircle Awards was founded by Dir. Alexander M. Baltazar, chairman of the EdukCircle International Center for Communication Studies (ICCS), in August 2011 aimed at recognizing personalities for their outstanding contribution to Philippine television. Baltazar, who has chaired almost a hundred national and international conferences in different parts of Asia, established The EdukCircle which primary objective is to provide a venue for the advancement and essential evaluation of communication practices in different academic fields.

There were only 5 awardees during the first EdukCircle Awards held in conjunction with ICCS Convention on Media Communication at the AFP Theater. The Awardees were Sandra Aguinaldo (GMA), Jessica Soho (GMA), Abner Mercado (ABS-CBN), Maki Pulido (GMA) and Luchi Cruz Valdes (TV5). They were recognized as World Achievers in Documentary having won different awards in various international documentary and film competitions. Soho was also recognized by the EdukCircle as Most Outstanding Filipino Documentarian of All Time. All awardees gave lectures on documentary to about 1,300 communication students and teachers from around the Philippines participating in the ICCS convention.

The second awarding was known as the EdukCircle MOPIP TV Awards (Most Outstanding Personalities in Philippine Television). Mel Tiangco was awarded Journalist of the Year while fellow GMA News anchor Vicky Morales was awarded Outstanding Journalist in Public Service for her show Wish Ko Lang. Mr. Rico Hizon was given a special recognition for bringing honor to the country as the first Filipino to anchor a news program in BBC. It was also the first time that EdukCircle has given awards to outstanding personalities from the entertainment industry. Kris Aquino personally accepted her trophy as the first recipient of the Most Influential Celebrity Endorser of the Year award. Vice Ganda was the first recipient of the Most Outstanding TV Personality in Comedy award while Coco Martin was the first recipient of the Best Actor award for his TV series Walang Hanggan. Those were the only awards given at that time. The Awarding was held at the Crossroad Convenarium in Quezon City.

There were eight categories in the 3rd EdukCircle Awards. Kim Chiu was the first recipient of Best Actress for Television award for her performance in her series Ina, Kaptid, Anak. Amy Perez and Ryzza Mae Dizon were both Best Talk Show Hosts.

Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin, Luis Manzano and Piolo Pascual personally received their first awards during the 4th EdukCircle Awards.

There were 15 categories in the 5th EdukCircle Awards. Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza were the first recipients of the Love Team of the Year Award for their phenomenal tandem as AlDub. Alden said that it was the first award received by AlDub.

CNN Philippines received its first awards during the 6th EdukCircle Awards with Pia Hontiveros and Pinky Webb cited for their exemplary performance as hosts of the 2016 Vice Presidential Debate

There are 35 categories in the upcoming 7th EdukCircle Awards.

Vice Ganda is an 11-time EdukCircle awardee reaping multiple awards as a comedian, influential actor, influential concert artist and talk show host. To date, he is the most awarded celebrity of the EdukCircle.

Kris Aquino, Anne Curtis and the Legaspi Family (Zoren, Carmina, Cassie and Mavy) were all inducted to the Hall of Fame for their multiple wins as Most Influential Celebrity Endorsers of the Year. They were inducted to the Hall of Fame during the 6th EdukCircle Awards.

Coco Martin, a 7-time EdukCircle awardee, was the first recipient of the Hall of Fame Award for Best Actor having won in that category 4 times for his performances in Walang Hanggan, Juan Dela Cruz, Ikaw Lamang and Ang Probinsyano.

Also in the Hall of Fame are Mel Tiangco for public service and Bernadette Sembrano and Alvin Elchico as health show hosts.

Kim Chiu has won the Best Actress award 3 times. It was a tie between her and Bela Padilla in the 6th EdukCircle Awards. Angel Locsin was Best Actress in the 4th EdukCircle Awards.

There are 50 members in the Academy of EdukCircle Judges who will determine the winners in the upcoming 7th EdukCircle Awards. Members of the Academy are deans, department heads, faculty members, school directors and students from different universities all over the Philippines.
